Thailand
Possibly the most exotic country in South East Asia with a rich diversity of attractions. Misty hills in the north around Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai, the exciting and colourful capital city of Bangkok with its fantastic selection of restaurants and shopping opportunities, and further south the beach resorts of Hua Hin and Krabi and the islands of Phuket and Samui. Add to this a fantastic range of newly introduced little boutique hotels, where you really do experience the superb quality of the country, yet in a manner that rarely compromises your comfort. Thailand is a year round destination, although Phuket and Krabi are generally at their best November through to April, and Samui between March through to October. Hua Hin is constant year round, although has slightly higher humidity in the mid summer months. Bangkok can be a hot steamy city in so many ways. The Northern region is at best November through to April when the evenings can even be quite cool, with the summer months having higher rainfall. Thailand is also the main gateway for travel to Indochina (Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos). Particularly suggested would be a short 3 day extension to see the temples of Angkor at Siem Reap, just a 60 minute flight from Bangkok.
What Will Impress You
The diverse scenery and culture. The fantastic quality. The magical sense of Asia. Incredible value for money. The total experience. The fantastic selection of restaurants, particularly in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
What May Disappoint You
Take care with your more expensive purchases (they may not be what they seem, particularly gems). The occasional communication problem. The over development of some resort areas.
